Powering Our Local Economy

National Small Business Week (recognized during the first week of May every year ) celebrates the entrepreneurs of our country. Each business owner has played a part in bringing new ideas to life while strengthening our nation’s economy. We know that small businesses are the backbone of every individual community here on Long Island and the Rockaways. It’s why we’re proud to have a wide array of energy efficiency and economic development programs available for small business customers. That’s why we continue to work hard to ensure that small businesses have the support they need to keep the local economy of the communities we serve thrive.

We offer Economic Development programs for local businesses and Chambers of Commerce. Each program is designed for specific needs. Check them out and see which may apply to your business.

Main Street Revitalization

Our Main Street Revitalization Program encourages the economic vitality of our downtowns while optimizing the use of existing electric infrastructure. This program offers financial incentive awards for projects in a local business district that are expected to improve the economic stability and growth of that town and neighboring communities.

Over the past five years, these grants have helped business owners create more than 900 local jobs, and have contributed approximately $1,093,125 across 44 projects.

Eligible projects may include:

  • Interior renovations designed to make your business more energy efficient
  • Façade improvements
  • Other investments that would enhance the vibrancy of the business district

Vacant Space Revival

Our Vacant Space Revival program encourages occupancy of a commercial spacethat has been vacant for a period of one year or more. Vacant storefronts and businesses hinder the growth of our towns and detracts from their potential growth. This program provides up to $10,000 in electric bill discounts for a new business’ first year, which is often financially difficult. Since 2018, more than 100 new businesses across Long Island have benefited from the Vacant Space Revival program!

Outdoor Commerce and Beautification

Created in 2020, this program is a direct response to the Covid-19 pandemic. We enhanced the program in 2023 by increasing the maximum amount of the grant to $10,000. Local chambers of commerce and business improvement districts can apply for funding for beautification and downtown improvement projects to help their members.

Specifically, this program provides funding to 501(c) (3) or 501(c)(6) organizations such as, Chambers of Commerce, Business Improvement Districts, Civic Associations and/or not-for-profits. Grants can be used for the following:

  • Outdoor Dining/Commerce: Includes heaters, benches, tables, chairs, umbrellas, garbage receptacles, barricades, durable safety equipment, outdoor non-holiday-specific lighting, speaker systems and limited signage.
  • Beautification Projects: includes planters, plants, mulch, landscape materials, rocks, flags, new gazebo construction and/or gazebo upgrade materials, winter seasonal décor/holiday lighting.
  • Murals
  • “Welcome To” signage: PSEG Long Island recognition signage required.

We’re proud to power the businesses that power the Long Island and Rockaways economies.
